Freelancing in a Recession

Many designers and writers that are in employment dream of the day when they will throw off the shackles of employment and go it alone. Many never make it that far, many are just waiting for the right time. Well, now it seems that we are going to be in this recession for a while, maybe now it's a good time to become a freelancer.

Large corporations and even medium sized companies are making many redundancies and laying off full-time employees. Subsequently they need to contract the work out to freelance professionals. This process ends up being cheaper for many companies because with freelancers they don't have to pay related benefits or deal with the long-term employment issues.

So, how do you get started?

Some quit their jobs, say goodbye to the boss and get right to finding a new client base. Most aren't that brave. You don't need to even quit immediately, you can become a part-time freelancer. This way you can build up your client base in your own time without having to worry about paying yourself a wage. Some people just stay part-time and enjoy the extra income.

There are many articles on getting started so I won't cover that here. What I will say is that if you have a passion for writing, designing or any other creative skills, you should really consider whether the current climate is a blessing in disguise and will enable you to move into a position where you can be working on projects you really want to work on rather than being a cubical slave.

So here at this blog you can start bidding on live projects and start making money immediately. If you have passion to become a freelancer then join it.
